●Taishan University is a full-time comprehensive undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It was the former Tai’an Government Normal College established in 1905. The University is located at the foot of Mount Tai---the World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site, World Geo-park and is the most famous mountain in China. The university boasts a serene and elegant campus, exuberant flowers and trees, carpetted with green grass and stunning scenery. It is well served by a convenient transportation network with the No.104 national road crossing here and connecting the golden tourist route of the “One Mountain (Mount Tai)”, the “One Water (Spring City of Jinan)”and “One Sage (Confucius)”.
●The university covers an area of 1,045 Chinese mu with total floor space of 420 thousand square meters including high standard teaching buildings, laboratories, libraries, a gymnasium and a student center. It has advanced technological teaching facilities and is all computers are connected to the internet.
●The university has adequate human resources with 1127 staff members, among which 752 are teachers, 334 have senior professional titles and 14 have been awarded the titles of “great teachers of Shandong Province”, “academic core of the middle-aged and young”, or top-notch talents of various professional skills.
●The university has a complete range of subjects, covering eight fields of arts, science, engineering, management, law, history, education and economics. The subjects of arts, science, education and management have been offered for several decades and have become influential subjects both in Shandong and in China. It currently has 19 teaching units, 44 undergraduate specialties and 34 professional training subjects. It enrolls students nationwide and has now 15,600 fulltime students and 4,120 registered students for adult higher education certificates.
●The University has made remarkable achievements in the offering of specialties and courses; and seven courses including mathematics and applied mathematics, advanced algebra, data structure, optics, Chinese course and teaching theory, Chinese geography, college English, literary sketching have been chosen as the provincial-level high quality courses, and the course of Chinese language and literature has been chosen as provincial-level undergraduate specialty. The teaching-research office for algebra and teaching method has been chosen as one of the first excellent teaching teams of Shandong Province. It has successfully carried out about 90 teaching reform subjects, 14 items of teaching achievements have won prizes of excellent teaching achievements at provincial level and above. In the Challenge Cup contest of the national university students for business start-up plan, the University has consecutively won the special prize for Shandong province and national silver prize. In addition, it has also achieved excellent results in various university student contests at provincial level and above for electronic design, mathematics modeling, electronic commerce and physical education skills among others.
●The university attaches great importance to teaching and research and has formed its own features and advantages in the fields of modern and contemporary Chinese literature, tourism management, computer application technology, organic chemistry and engineering, mathematics education and physical electronics. It set up Mount Tai Research College and ten research institutes of mathematics education, applied physics and electronic technology, analysis science, picture and data processing, element organic chemistry, Chinese modern and contemporary literature, tourism, education science, Mount Tai calligraphy, painting and arts, and small and medium sized city community research. It has an academic publication such as the Journal of Taishan University (Philosophy and Social Science Edition and Natural Science Edition), etc.
●The university pays attention to the adoption of international concept of running a university and attaches importance to cultivating the students’ international consciousness, international communicative ability and international competitiveness. It has established ties for exchanges and cooperation with 14 universities from the United States, Australia, Russia, Thailand, Japan and Korea. From 1982, it started to engage several foreign teachers, and from 1995 it began to recruit overseas students. In 1999, it was named by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council as one of the First Batch of National Chinese Language Education Bases. A number of teachers are sent to teach abroad every year.
